New hard drive options for bitseed core

Bitseed is now offering two new hard drive options for Bitseed Core customers:

Bitseed Core 2 TB HDD
Bitseed Core 480 GB SSD

Since introducing our Bitseed Core 1 TB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) option, it has become our most popular seller, and customers have been requesting even more hard drive space. We are only too happy to oblige with the addition of a 2TB HDD option. We have also added a 480 GB Solid State Drive (SSD) option, which works great for software like Block stack that requires faster disk speeds to read the local blockchain ID database. Whether it supports capacity increases for Bitcoin or the release of innovative software that makes productive use of additional disk space, we’re excited to help our customers prepare for the future by providing more hard drive options.

Patch released for glibc vulnerability

Recently, a vulnerability in the GNU C library was disclosed that affects many Linux operating systems. This vulnerability opens the door to man-in-the-middle attacks and remote code execution, allowing an attacker to remotely control an affected machine. Bitseed has released instructions on our blog for patching this vulnerability. It is advised that all Bitseed owners follow these instructions to download and install the patch if they have not already.

Growing mempool got your node down? It’s time to upgrade!

The Bitcoin transaction memory pool aka the mempool has been growing in size as Bitcoin has continued to grow in popularity. This “mempool” contains Bitcoin transactions which have not yet been confirmed by the Bitcoin network and added to the blockchain. In the past, it has been observed that some Bitcoin full nodes will crash if their mempool gets too full. To prevent this from happening, full node operators are advised to upgrade to Bitcoin Core 0.12.0 and implement changes to limit the size of the mempool.

This software update includes a mechanism for limiting the total size of the mempool. Previously, a mechanism was added that lets node operators adjust the “minrelaytxfee” setting to limit the type of transactions that enter the mempool. We are currently working on an update to the Bitseed UI that will make it easy to adjust these settings from a web browser.
