Bitseed Weekly Broadcast, Issue #15

Welcome to Issue #15 of the Weekly Broadcast, a weekly newsletter published by the Bitseed team to share important news for Bitcoin full node operators. We cover the latest in Bitcoin development, full node news, community events, and experimental projects that node operators may find of interest. If you have any news tips or insights you’d like us to share in a future edition of the Weekly Broadcast, send us a message and we’ll credit you if your submission is published. Here’s the latest:

Bitseed restore instructions

Occasionally, an error will cause Bitseed devices to become inoperable. This can happen after installing experimental software or incompatible updates. We have posted instructions on our blog for replacing the Ubuntu OS running on Bitseed with a fresh image without having to open up the device and restore from an SD card. These instructions are still experimental but have been proven to work on the devices that we use for testing. If you need to restore your Bitseed device and experience any issues with these instructions, please contact us directly so we can help diagnose the problem.

Bitcoin Core announcements mailing list

You can now subscribe to an “announcements only” mailing list to receive important announcements about security updates and new releases from the Bitcoin Core team. This is in addition to the other communication channels recently created for Bitcoin Core, including their official website, Slack, and Twitter feed. If you want to be among the first to receive critical updates about the Bitcoin reference software, subscribe to the new announcements-only Bitcoin Core mailing list.

Segregated Witness testnet tools

There are a few new tools that have been developed for testing the Segregated Witness (“segwit”) test network (“segnet”), including a segwit block explorer, charts, a segnet wallet, and a segnet coin faucet. You can use these tools to test the new segwit feature that Bitcoin Core is planning to roll out in the near future as a soft fork. Big thanks to the Green Address and Smartbit teams for making these tools available to the community for testing!
